Knitwear Care Guide

Good knitwear lasts for seasons when it's treated gently. These simple habits keep our sweater dresses, knit sets and sweaters soft and in shape. Always check the care instructions on the product page first: they take priority over this general guide.

Washing

  • Wash less often. Knits rarely need washing after every wear. Airing a piece overnight is often enough.
  • Cold water only. Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent, or use a delicate cycle at 30°C / 86°F maximum.
  • Use a laundry bag. It protects the knit from friction and snagging in the machine.
  • Turn it inside out. This reduces surface wear and pilling.
  • No bleach, no fabric softener overload. A small amount of softener is fine; too much can weigh the fibers down.

Drying

  • Never tumble dry. Heat can shrink or deform knitwear.
  • Press, don't wring. Roll the piece in a clean towel and press gently to remove excess water.
  • Lay flat to dry. Reshape it to its original measurements on a flat surface, away from direct heat or sunlight.

Storing

  • Fold, don't hang. Hanging stretches the shoulders and length of knitwear over time.
  • Give it room. Store folded pieces without heavy items on top.
  • Keep it dry. A cool, dry drawer or shelf is ideal.

Pilling

Small balls of fiber can appear on any knit in areas of friction, such as under the arms or where a bag rubs. It's a normal effect of wear, not a defect. Remove pills gently with a fabric shaver or sweater comb, working on a flat surface.

Steaming

To refresh a knit or smooth creases, use a handheld steamer held a few centimeters away from the fabric. Avoid pressing an iron directly onto knitwear.
